❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Q: How do I install OK Noted?

A: Visit the Chrome Web Store, search for "OK Noted," and click "Add to Chrome." The extension will be automatically installed and ready to use.

Q: Why don't I see the Notes button on YouTube?

A: Make sure you're on a YouTube video page (not the homepage). If the button still doesn't appear, try refreshing the page or reloading the extension in Chrome's extensions settings.

Q: Do I need a Google account?

A: Yes, OK Noted requires a Google account to save your notes to Google Drive. This ensures your notes are synced across devices and backed up securely.

Using the Extension

Q: How do I insert timestamps?

A: Click the timestamp button (⏰) in the editor toolbar, or use the keyboard shortcut. The timestamp will be inserted at your current cursor position and will be clickable to jump to that video moment.

Q: How do I take screenshots?

A: Click the camera button (📸) in the toolbar to capture the current video frame. The screenshot will be automatically uploaded to your Google Drive and embedded in your notes.

Q: Can I format my text (bold, italic, etc.)?

A: Yes! Use the formatting toolbar to make text bold, italic, create lists, and more. You can also use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+B for bold.

Q: Are my notes automatically saved?

A: Yes, your notes are automatically saved to Google Drive every few seconds. You'll see a brief "Saving..." indicator when this happens.

Google Drive Integration

Q: Where are my notes stored?

A: Your notes are saved as HTML files in a "YouTube Notes" folder in your Google Drive. You can access them anytime through drive.google.com.

Q: Can I access my notes on other devices?

A: Yes! Since your notes are stored in Google Drive, you can access them on any device by logging into your Google account and visiting your Drive.

Q: What permissions does the extension need?

A: OK Noted needs permission to access YouTube pages (to inject the notes interface) and Google Drive (to save your notes). We only access files created by the extension.

Q: Can I organize my notes?

A: Notes are automatically organized by video title and date. You can also manually organize them in Google Drive by creating subfolders or renaming files.

Privacy & Security

Q: Is my data private?

A: Absolutely! Your notes are stored only in your personal Google Drive account. We don't store, access, or share your data with anyone. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Q: Does OK Noted track my browsing?

A: No, we don't track your browsing habits or collect analytics. The extension only accesses YouTube video pages where you actively use it.

Q: What happens if I uninstall the extension?

A: Your notes remain safely stored in your Google Drive even if you uninstall the extension. You can always reinstall later and access your existing notes.

Troubleshooting

Q: The extension isn't working on YouTube

A: Try these steps:

  • Refresh the YouTube page
  • Make sure you're on a video page, not the homepage
  • Check that the extension is enabled in Chrome settings
  • Try disabling other extensions temporarily
  • Clear browser cache and cookies

Q: I can't authenticate with Google Drive

A: This usually indicates a browser or network issue:

  • Make sure you're signed into your Google account
  • Try disabling ad blockers temporarily
  • Check if third-party cookies are enabled
  • Try using an incognito window

Q: My notes aren't saving

A: Check these potential issues:

  • Verify you're connected to the internet
  • Make sure you've authorized Google Drive access
  • Check if your Google Drive has available storage space
  • Try logging out and back into your Google account

Q: Timestamps aren't clickable

A: Clickable timestamps work when:
